The Golden Tower (torre del Oro) of Seville Spain

The Golden Tower (torre del Oro) of Seville Spain

The Golden Tower (torre del Oro) of Seville Spain, built between 1221 and 1222, was one of the last contributions from the Almohade period in the city. It formed part of the last wall of defense that ran fromthe Alcázar to the river. It’s believed that the tower was given its name because of the sun’s reflection off the gold tiles that once covered it. Today it is a naval museum which houses the plans formthe tower as well as models and paintings of illustrious Spanish navigators and ships.
